What is micro suction?
Micro-suction is a safe and effective way of removing ear wax or foreign objects stuck in the ear canal. The wax is vacuumed out of your ear canal by our doctor whilst viewing the area via a microscope. There is no water involved.
Can you remove objects stuck in the ear?
Yes, items such as cotton buds, ear plugs or insects that have become stuck in the ear can be removed with suction or alligator forceps by our doctor.
What are the symptoms of excessive ear wax?
Symptoms of excess ear wax may include: hearing loss, ringing in the ears, pain, itchiness, sensation of fullness in the ear, or a bad odour from the ear.
Why choose micro suction?
Micro suction is gentle on the ears. It is safer and less messy than traditional ear syringing with water. There is less risk of ear perforation and infection compared to ear syringing. Most patients will report an instant relief once the clogged up wax is removed.
Do I need to prepare before my appointment?
No specific preparation is required. However, if you use ear wax oil or waxsol for 1 or 2 days before your appointment, it can make the suction much easier.
How much does it cost?
The fee for ear wax micro suction is $120. Your Medicare rebate is $41, resulting in an out of pocket cost of $79.
